In this unprecendented setting of a match, witnessed by hundreds of local supporters, FUFC almost held on to a hard fought draw against the home team Munsiganj Sonali Otit Club. Date: 12th Dec, 2008

Venue: WAPDA Ground, Banani

In a pulsating and riveting encounter, Friday United wrapped up the season on a high note, winning by 3 goals to 1,against their bitter rivals BRAC Bank @ the WAPDA ground in Banani. Defying the overcast and chilly weather, the red and blacks warmed up for the last official game of2008 in what has been an eventful year for them.

Although, the result was convincing for FUFC but it surely didn’t look so when BRAC took the opportunity of some defensive lapses and scored first, through their only striker Ornob working double time to penetrate the FUFC defense. But the lead lasted only a few minutes when makeshift striker for the day ‘Syeed’ barged in the equalizer from a goal mouth melee. It was refreshing to see the enigmatic player finally make his mark for FUFC, who has been missing key matches due to injuries.

With the equalizer, FUFC got their tails up and bagged the second goal in no time [e1] with some brilliant exchange of passes between ‘Jamil’ and ‘Razon’. The goal was headed in by midfielder ‘Palash’, who was playing his first official game in FUFC colors in absence of he regular captain ‘Armaan’.

In the second half, FUFC played a more controlled game with accurate passing in the midfield and a rock-solid defense. The crowd could anticipate a third goal coming and it finally came through ‘Palash’ again who was in sublime form in the midfield. BRAC continued to probe and push but thanks to the decent defensive performanc fromanother debutant Duke & the virtuoso performance of stand in captain ‘Shuvo’ as the center defensive midfielder, FUFC held firm against the attacks and got a well deserved victory in the end.

AKUPRETS XI 0 – 7 Friday United FC

Posted in Match Reviews on August 2, 2008 by nazamshahpar

Was it revenge or was it vengeance? Perhaps the scorecard doesnt always say it all. On Friday 1-August at the Sappers Football Ground, FUFC simply destroyed their arch rivals AKUPRETS XI. In a match entirely dominated by FUFC, the score chould have crossed double figures except for some close misses.

Yet another superb hat-trick from prolific striker Razon and 2 brilliant goals each from Rony & Jamil thrashed the ‘chickens’ who were showing off their yellow jerseys for the first time. The result proved that FUFC have come a long way since losing 4-0 to their rivals last year, while the chickens seem to have stayed the same.

Friday United 5 -4 Navana Ltd XI

Posted in Match Reviews on July 15, 2008 by nazamshahpar

A splendid 5-goal come-back in the second half at last proved Friday United’s long lost resilience & dogged determination. In an encounter marred by the heavy downpour and poor ground condition, FUFC struggled to find their rhythm in the first half due to absence of some key players at the back. Navana took advantage of 10-men FUFC to score two goals in quick succession near the end of the first half.

But inspirational performances from Razon & captain Arman soon started to lift up FUFC and within 5 minutes of the second half they leveled the score to 2-2. From then on FUFC continued to dominate the game and further goals from Mohoshi & Arman put them ahead twice 3-2 and 4-3. Stand-in goalkeeper Jitu also gave a superb performance for FUFC to support the weakened defense. Although Navana luckily managed to score twice in this half due to some major defensive lapses and the game looked to end up in a draw, but the hat-trick hero and man-of-the match Arman scored his third goal right at the depth to clinch a long awaited and well-deserved win.

Starting Line-up: Jitu, Reza, John, Jasha, Shuvo, Arman, Rony, Jonny, Razon, Mohoshi.

Formation: 3-4-2

Subs: None

Man of the Match: Arman

Brac Bank XI 0-2 Friday United FC

Posted in Match Reviews on February 15, 2008 by nazamshahpar

Revenge was sweet when Friday United convincingly beat Brac Bank XI at the Army Stadium Field on Friday 13-June. In a match interrupted by officials & ultimately cut short to just one half of play, FUtd showed strong performenace both at the centre of the midfield and at the back.

A brilliant individual goal from Rony and another one from the Captain of the day Arman gave FUtd a somewhat satisfying win over the same side that beat them in the last match.

FUtd started the game with arguably their second string team but they showed great responsibility and maturity to snatch the coveted win.
